Pride Month is here, and you know what that means; it’s party time! While Pride Month reminds everyone of the importance of accepting each other and the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s also a time to celebrate who you are. And what’s a better way of celebrating love and self-acceptance and expression than through a good party (or five)?
If you’re thinking about spicing things up a bit and celebrating Pride outside of your city, we have some must-see Pride celebrations for you to check out. No, seriously. You’ll want these 9 celebrations on your bucket list.
Amsterdam Gay Pride
Amsterdam is known as the city of Sin because they’re all about having a good time. If you’re planning a trip to Europe, make sure you go around Amsterdam Pride. Pride is full of street parties and dance festivals, but what’s really cool is that it’s all centered around the canal. So, you can enjoy the colorful Pride parade while the floats, well, float down the canal.
Miami Beach Pride
You want color? You want pizazz? Then you need to check out Miami Beach Pride. There’s no question about it. Miami Beach Pride is one of the largest and most popular events celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. Not to mention, it’s Miami - when have you ever heard of Miami not being the party place? Exactly. Just go.
San Francisco Pride
When it comes to Pride, San Francisco is one of the first places that come to mind. Why? Because San Francisco has one of the oldest and largest Pride parades in the world. It’s a signature event that you just need to see.
If you’re looking for a dreamy Pride Parade, then I have the perfect place for you. Disneyland Paris hosts the Magical Pride Parade that features live performances and the whole Disney gang.
The best part is the whole park is covered out in Pride-theme decor, and you can go on selected rides until late into the night. Celebrating Pride at Disneyland is a must.
Tel Aviv Pride Week
If you want to celebrate Pride in the Middle East, you have to check out Tel Aviv Pride. It’s definitely worth the trip as one week in June (9th to 14th) is all about partying it up. And they know how to party.
With rooftop parties and a beachfront parade, Tel Aviv’s Pride week is one you’ll never forget. So, you better pack your speedos (people still wear them, right?).
New York Pride
Oh here we go! In the heart of New York City is New York Pride. Over the course of 30 days, 50+ events happen with around 30 million participants. Yeah, 30 million people. That’s a big number, I know.
Each year, the Heritage of Pride nonprofit hosts the only LGBTQIA+ Pride events to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969. The riots set the foundation for the modern Gay Rights movement.
Now, the Pride has expanded its cause, including the fights against AIDS and remembering the lives lost to illness and violence. It’s a meaningful place as it was the birthplace of the Gay Rights movement. Pride Month is held every June.
São Paulo Gay Pride Parade
Uf! Who wouldn’t want to spend Pride in one of the sexiest places on earth? Can I get an amen? Every year, millions of people take to the streets to celebrate Pride in São Paulo.
Oh, did I mention they have the largest gay Pride parade in the world? Even Grindr awarded São Paulo with the best Pride parade, so you can’t miss it. Famous for its sex clubs and saunas, you’ll have a lot of fun.
EuroPride is a pan-European international LGBTQIA+ event that is hosted by a new city each year. For 2022, EuroPride is in Belgrade, Serbia and is pretty historic. Millions of people show up to support the LGBTQIA+ cause, and celebrate love, self-expression, and community.
For many places like Serbia, EuroPride shows the country’s progression and acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community. If you’re looking for an event that is more than just a party, this is a great one to check out.
Christopher Street Day Berlin
Named after the street in New York where the Stonewall riots took place, Berlin’s Pride festival is split into two parts: 1) the parade itself, and 2) the rally.
The rally is where you can see live performances, discussions, and DJs. What’s cool about Berlin is there’s always something going on. The weekend before is the Lesbian & Gay Festival. So, if you want to go on a longer holiday, why not celebrate both events.
Now you know all the best places you need to be for Pride. Just make sure before booking your ticket you double-check if these cities have physical events (because, you know…the pandemic).
